Arkansas

Governor

Governor Asa Hutchinson (R)

Re-elected Governor and strong friend of educational innovation Asa Hutchinson served three terms in Congress, as Director of the Drug Enforcement Administration and as the first Undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Since he’s been Governor, Hutchinson has helped expand charters, and oversaw creation of a modest education scholarship program. In what should be a model for schools nationwide, Arkansas in 2015 became the first state to pass legislation requiring computer science courses be taught in every public high school. The law allows computer science to count towards a graduation credit. That’s innovation.
